The Nigerian Army successfully busted an illegal refinery in Rivers State, seizing a staggering 3 million litres of stolen crude oil from the clandestine facility. The meticulous raid, led by Major General Jamal Abdusallam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, unfolded at Akwa-Odiogwa in Etche Local Government Area.
Navigating through the dense forest alongside officers and men of the 6 Division, General Abdusallam acted on credible intelligence, revealing an array of equipment employed in the illicit refining process. During the operation, several artisans facilitating the transportation of the pilfered oil products were apprehended.
Addressing the press about the raid, Major General Abdusallam emphasized the severity of the illegality perpetrated at the site. He pledged to ensure the destruction of the illegal facility and the handover of the confiscated crude oil to relevant agencies. Furthermore, he affirmed the Army’s commitment to tracking down and apprehending the main perpetrators, even if those initially arrested were just artisans.
Expressing concern over the prevalence of oil theft and illegal refining, Major General Abdusallam issued a stern call for individuals engaged in such activities to desist, repent, and redirect their efforts into legal business ventures. The crackdown on illegal facilities aims to curtail the detrimental impact of such operations on the nation’s resources and environment.
As the operation concluded, the team, faced with a vast forest area spanning approximately 30 plots of land, ensured the presence of two Swamp Buggy tractors on-site for the imminent destruction of the illegal facility. The decisive actions taken by the Nigerian Army underscore their commitment to combating illicit activities, safeguarding national resources, and promoting lawful endeavors.
