Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters participated in a
on the 99th day of the Israel-Hamas war, demanding an immediate cease-fire in Gaza
and opposing US and British support for Israel. Washington and London witnessed
significant gatherings, with protesters waving Palestinian flags and chanting
slogans such as “Cease-fire now,” “Free Palestine,” and “End the War on Gaza.”
In Washington, Palestinian-Americans shared emotional accounts of friends and
relatives affected by the conflict, urging President Biden to pressure Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
London hosted its seventh pro-Palestinian demonstration since October 7,
prompted by Hamas militants’ actions in southern Israel. Israel’s response
involved a relentless bombardment of Gaza, resulting in a substantial death toll,
primarily civilians. The London protest, secured by around 1,700 police officers,
aimed to show solidarity with the people of Palestine and voice opposition to
government support for Israel.
Protesters in London expressed frustration and dissatisfaction with the
international community’s response to the conflict, emphasizing the need for
global support for the Palestinian cause. The day of action, organized by a
British coalition, included demonstrations in 30 countries. The Campaign for
Nuclear Disarmament, part of the coalition, called for a permanent cease-fire
and a lasting political settlement for Palestinians. Kate Hudson, representing
the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, stressed the importance of the British
government ending its support for Israel’s actions and joining the international
community in condemning war crimes in Gaza.
