Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, received a warm welcome from residents as he returned to the state following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship polls. Despite earlier setbacks where the Court of Appeal and the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal had ousted the governor, the apex court overturned those decisions on Friday, leading to a joyous homecoming for Yusuf.
The streets of Tamburawa in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State were filled with people on Sunday, expressing their support and excitement over the governor’s return. Supporters and well-wishers gathered as early as 6 am in Chiroma town, bordering Kano and Kaduna, eagerly awaiting Yusuf’s arrival, who chose to travel to the state capital rather than taking a flight.
The governor’s convoy passed through major towns in neighboring Kaduna State, where crowds greeted him with singing and dancing, acknowledging cheers from the enthusiastic people. The jubilant atmosphere reflected the relief and celebration of Governor Yusuf’s reinstated victory.
As of the latest report, Governor Yusuf’s convoy is expected to proceed directly to Filin Mahaha in Kano metropolis, where he will address the people later in the day. The events mark a significant moment for the governor and his supporters, emphasizing the resilience and determination in the face of legal challenges.
