In a bold stride towards bolstering Nigeria’s power infrastructure, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has achieved a significant feat by energizing a new 60MVA power transformer at the 132/33KV Okenne Transmission Substation in Kogi State. This strategic move has furnished the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company with an additional 48 megawatts, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s quest for enhanced electricity supply.
Simultaneously, TCN celebrated the inauguration of another 60MVA power transformer at the 132/33kV Amukpe Transmission Substation in Delta State, further amplifying the nation’s power capacity. The collective efforts reflect the commitment of the Federal Government to fortify the electricity grid, signaling a positive turn for consumers and industries alike.
According to a statement shared on TCN’s official channels, the successful energization of these transformers not only augments the Okenne substation’s capability to deliver bulk power to Abuja DisCo but also elevates the Amukpe substation’s capacity from 100MVA to 120MVA, empowering the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to serve its clientele in Delta State with increased vigor.
However, amidst the triumphs, there is a stern reminder from the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, against the vandalism of TCN installations across the nation. During a visit to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, the Minister, accompanied by TCN’s Managing Director, Dr Sule Abdulaziz, emphasized the imperative of safeguarding power installations. The duo’s meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State centered on collaborative strategies to fortify power supply and engage local communities in protecting vital TCN installations and equipment within the state. The discourse not only sheds light on the triumphs of the power sector but also underscores the challenges that persist, calling for a collective effort to ensure a reliable and secure energy landscape for Nigeria.
