AFTERMATH OF IBADAN EXPLOSION

In ongoing efforts to address the aftermath of Tuesday’s explosion in the Bodija area of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, more bodies are being recovered. Search and rescue operations continue at the scene, where victims are still being found, and some residents remain missing.
 
One positive development emerged as a victim was successfully rescued alive this morning after spending more than 30 hours under the rubble. Earthmoving equipment is actively engaged in uncovering more victims, reflecting the dedication of the rescue teams on the ground.
 
Despite the challenges, hope persists, especially as survivors attempt to salvage what remains of their belongings. Saheed Akiode, the Southwest Coordinator of NEMA, provides updates on the ongoing efforts, emphasizing the commitment to rescuing individuals trapped under the debris.
 
Displaced victims, fortunate to be alive, are recovering what they can. Some distraught individuals are desperately searching for their family members, highlighting the emotional toll of the incident. The government assures affected families that every possible action is being taken to rescue everyone trapped, alive or deceased.
 
Professor Temitope Alonge, the Coordinator of the Emergency Response Centre, shares insights into the situation. The Commissioner for Health in Oyo State, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, confirms that the death toll has risen to 5 and outlines plans for additional support for victims post-treatment.
 
Forensic pathologist Dr. Nwom Eze, involved in the rescue efforts, acknowledges the challenges but expresses determination to recover those who may still be trapped. As rescue operations intensify, individuals receiving medical treatment at hospitals are being discharged and relocated to shelters provided by the government for the displaced. The collaborative efforts aim to address both immediate and ongoing needs resulting from the tragic incident.
