Record seven-time champions Egypt received a setback in the Africa Cup of Nations as captain Mohamed Salah is ruled out of two games due to a hamstring injury. The Egyptian Football Association confirmed Salah’s absence, stating that he won’t return unless Egypt reaches the quarter-finals at the tournament. Salah, who plays for Liverpool, was substituted late in the first half of Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana.

Senegal secured a spot in the last 16 after defeating Cameroon 3-1 in Yamoussoukro. Ismaila Sarr of Marseille put the reigning champions ahead early on and later set up Habib Diallo to make it 2-0. Despite a goal from Jean-Charles Castelletto, Senegal maintained their lead, and Sadio Mane sealed the victory late in the game. Senegal now has a maximum of six points in Group C after two matches, while Cameroon has only one point, putting their last-16 hopes in jeopardy.

In another Group C match, Guinea, missing star striker Serhou Guirassy, secured a 1-0 victory against Gambia at the same venue. Aguibou Camara’s second-half goal was enough to secure the win for Guinea, adding three crucial points to their AFCON campaign. The absence of Guirassy didn’t hinder Guinea’s determination as they managed to clinch the victory and strengthen their position in the group.
