The Inspector-General of Police, IGP KayodeEgbetokun, spearheaded the launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS). This groundbreaking initiative, working in synergy with units such as the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section, and other State Commands, marks a transformative moment in security architecture consolidation.

The collaborative efforts of the SIS and its counterparts yielded remarkable results, with the apprehension of sixteen notorious criminals involved in kidnapping and violent crimes. Among them were three Bwari-based kidnappers, Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, known for their involvement in numerous armed robbery cases and kidnappings within the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the FCT.

In a commendable display of efficiency, the operatives managed to recover a substantial arsenal of arms and ammunition, including a general-purpose machine gun (GPMG). The proactive measures taken by the SIS thwarted a potential kidnap plot, resulting in the arrest of the Bwari-based kidnappers and the successful recovery of weapons.

The operation further extended to the interception of a gunrunner, Everest Magaji, engaged in negotiations with notorious bandits for the purchase and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition. The outcome saw the confiscation of eleven pistols and two pump-action guns from the suspect.

The IGP emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to transform the country into a safe haven. Encouraging citizens to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities, he underscored the force’s dedication to ensuring the nation’s safety.
