The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Bishop Dami Mamza, characterized the trauma endured by women and girls kidnapped by Boko Haram during the peak of the insurgency in the Northeast as dehumanizing. This statement was made during the distribution of cash gifts to victims of Boko Haram kidnappings in 2014.
In response to the Boko Haram insurgency between 2014 and 2016, marked by widespread attacks and kidnappings in the North East, around two hundred women and girls who were either released or escaped from captivity are receiving ₦150,000 each, courtesy of the Yola Diocese of the Catholic Church in collaboration with a foreign donor.
Bishop Dami Mamza explained the cash donation, emphasizing its significance, while Gambo Jika, the Chairman of the Muslim Council of Nigeria Adamawa Chapter, encouraged the beneficiaries to overcome their past experiences with terrorists and rebuild their lives.
The recipients expressed appreciation for the donors’ efforts and pledged to use the money judiciously. The intervention, prompted by the infamous 2014 abduction of two hundred schoolgirls from Chibok by Boko Haram, seeks to support victims in reintegrating into society after facing the hardships of conflict.
