The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has selected 10 aspirants to vie for candidacy in the upcoming Edo State governorship primary election slated for 22nd February. PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, confirmed this during a media briefing held on Tuesday in Abuja. He announced that the aspirants received Provisional Clearance Certificates at the PDP national headquarters.
Among the notable figures cleared for participation are Philip Shaibu, the incumbent Edo deputy governor, Asue Ighodalo, former managing director of Sterling Bank, and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, a former House of Representatives member. Additionally, Felix Akhabue, a former chairperson of Esan West Local Government Area, and Anslem Ojezua, former chairperson of the Edo chapter of the All Progressives Congress, have also been cleared.
Others who secured clearance include Omosede Igbinedion, a former House of Representatives member, Arthur Esene, Martin Uhomoibhi, and Osaro Onaiwu. However, Balogun Sunday, the eleventh aspirant, failed to attend the screening session, according to Mr. Bature’s statement to the press.
The process underscores the party’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in its selection of candidates for the gubernatorial race in Edo State. The issuance of Provisional Clearance Certificates signals a crucial step towards narrowing down the field of aspirants and advancing the democratic process within the PDP framework.
