Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has taken decisive action, suspending the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon Omoun Perez, with immediate effect. Additionally, he has directed the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Bennett Agamah; Assistant Director, Agricultural Engineering, Engr Oki Yintareke; and Chief Accountant, Gabriel Idiatacheko, to proceed on compulsory leave.
The suspension and compulsory leave were initiated by the Delta state government to facilitate an investigation into alleged infractions related to the management of the ministry’s schemes. A seven-man committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, has been constituted to oversee the investigation process.
According to the statement released by the Press Unit, Government House, the decision stems from a review of the implementation of the Greenhouse project by the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Governor Oborevwori approved the suspension and compulsory leave to ensure an impartial investigative process free from potential bias or influence.
The government clarified that the actions taken do not imply guilt but rather serve to uphold the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The goal is to maintain transparency and fairness throughout the inquiry process, ensuring that all parties involved have equal access to information and that justice is served.
The immediate suspension of Hon. Omoun Perez, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, underscores the government’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
