The Federal Government has issued a directive to the Nigerian Police Force, urging them to implement a novel and assertive strategy against terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other criminal factions nationwide. The directive underscores the necessity of engaging adversaries head-on, locating their covert shelters, disrupting their activities, and dismantling their networks. This call for proactive measures is aimed at preempting criminal initiatives and tilting the balance of power in favor of law enforcement.
During a visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, implored the police to embrace this innovative strategy under the stewardship of Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The minister emphasized that the practice of waiting for adversaries to strike has only bolstered their audacity, necessitating a more assertive stance from law enforcement in the pursuit of peace and security.
Accompanied by Minister of State for Police Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister Gaidam stressed the imperative of effectively implementing the safe school environment policy. He underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to furnishing requisite assistance to law enforcement agencies, augmenting their capabilities to effectively combat security threats.
In response, IGP Egbetokun conveyed confidence in the police force’s capability to surmount insurgency and other criminal activities within the nation. He assured the government of the police’s dedication to collaborating with the Ministry of Police Affairs to fulfill their mandate and uphold democratic principles. This partnership between the government and law enforcement is designed to fortify security measures and ensure the safety and welfare of all citizens.
