In a disconcerting turn of events, members of the IJAW Youth Council have raised poignant concerns about the loss of life among indigenous inhabitants in the Igbomotoru community of Bayelsa, purportedly at the hands of military personnel.

Convening at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State, Alaye Theophilus, President of the IYC, drew attention to the distressing circumstances, alleging that armed forces aboard gunboats had launched an onslaught on the tranquil Igbomotoru community, resulting in an undisclosed number of casualties.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, the Nigerian Army remains reticent, leaving room for conjecture regarding potential links to the ongoing military engagement in the nearby Okuama community of Delta State.

Expressing profound dismay over the reported incident, Theophilus underscored the imperative of a comprehensive inquiry to unearth the truth and ensure accountability for the perpetrators’ actions.

Amidst the prevailing atmosphere of uncertainty, Theophilus implored for composure among the denizens of Igbomotoru, stressing the paramountcy of amicable dialogue and conflict resolution through legitimate channels.

Moreover, he petitioned pertinent authorities and human rights entities to promptly intercede and address the exigencies of justice and restitution in the wake of this calamity.
