Unidentified assailants attack officers in Ebonyi, prompting manhunt

 A tragic incident occurred in Ebonyi State as a group of unidentified gunmen attacked a police checkpoint, resulting in the death of one officer.

 The attack took place at Ishieke Junction along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway in Ebonyi Local Government Area on Thursday morning.

 According to Ebonyi Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the gunmen arrived in an ash-colored Sienna vehicle and began shooting at the officers.

 The officers at the checkpoint engaged the assailants in a fierce gunfight, but one officer was fatally wounded in the process.

 Additionally, a patrol vehicle was set ablaze during the attack, causing further disruption.

 In response to the attack, Police Commissioner Augustina Ogbodo deployed additional police operatives to the scene and initiated a search for the perpetrators.

 Despite the attack, calm and order have been restored to the area, according to the police.

 The Commissioner has called on residents to provide any information that may help locate the assailants and ensure justice is served.
