A tragic tanker explosion in the Agbor area of Ika South Local Government, Delta State, claimed the lives of at least five persons on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred when a diesel-laden tanker reportedly lost control due to brake failure and crashed at a traffic light junction, causing a massive fire outbreak.
Viral videos from the scene showed residents fleeing for safety as the raging inferno consumed the tanker, nearby buildings, and other structures.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, offering condolences to the families of the deceased and those injured. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary,
Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor described the fire outbreak as horrifying and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. Three individuals are reported to have sustained varying degrees of injuries from the explosion.
