Six Perish, 60 Injured in Kogi Vehicular Tragedy

The remains of six individuals who succumbed to a tragic vehicular collision have been deposited at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has officially confirmed the demise of six lives in an accident involving an articulated truck that occurred on Tuesday evening. The catastrophic event unfolded along a major route in Lokoja, leaving devastation in its wake.
Kogi State FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Oyedeji, conveyed the grim casualty figures to members of the press, revealing that beyond the fatalities, 60 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
In his remarks, Oyedeji attributed the harrowing incident to excessive speeding, a recurring menace on Nigeria’s roads. He fervently implored drivers to prioritize adherence to traffic regulations as a means of curtailing such tragedies.
According to the Sector Commander, FRSC operatives, working in conjunction with personnel from the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, promptly transported the injured to Kogi Specialist Hospital and the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lokoja for urgent medical intervention.
Oyedeji further disclosed that the bodies of the deceased have been placed in the morgue of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, while investigations into the root causes of the incident remain ongoing.
He reiterated the need for motorists to exercise restraint and maintain vigilance, emphasizing that lives lost to road mishaps are irretrievable, leaving families and communities in mourning.
