Monday’s legislative plenary marked the third consecutive session overseen by Mojisola Meranda since the ousting of Mudashiru Obasa, whose presence has remained conspicuously absent from the proceedings. Despite his claims of retaining the position of Speaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Obasa’s absence on this occasion further deepened the intrigue surrounding his impeachment.

Heightened security measures were visibly in place at the assembly complex, a move interpreted as a bid to reinforce control under the new leadership. Reports from *Mediaplung.com* detailed the directive mandating assembly officials to present valid identification cards for entry, underlining the shift in administrative protocols.

A fortified police presence enveloped the assembly on Monday, as Meranda officially carried out her duties in her newly assumed role as Speaker. The day’s plenary proceedings highlighted her authority as she chaired the session with composure and clarity.

Notably, Meranda, flanked by 39 lawmakers in unison, partook in a symbolic group photograph within the assembly premises. The gesture sought to dispel swirling rumors that suggested a fractured assembly, following Obasa’s public denunciation of his impeachment.

Over the weekend, Obasa had voiced staunch opposition to the proceedings that led to his removal, asserting that due process was not adhered to in his impeachment. His claims, however, have not deterred Meranda and her colleagues, who appear resolute in their collective stand.

Amidst these developments, anticipation mounts as Meranda is expected to announce the appointment of committee chairpersons. These individuals will spearhead oversight activities within the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Lagos State, marking a pivotal step in shaping the assembly’s new trajectory under her stewardship.
