Tragedy struck on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on Saturday when a Toyota Sienna collided with the rear of a container truck after the driver lost control of the vehicle. The harrowing incident claimed the life of a passenger and left
five others with injuries of varying severity.
The Ogun State Police Command, through a statement by its Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola in Abeokuta, confirmed the sorrowful event on Sunday. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of the Toyota Sienna failed to maintain control, resulting in the catastrophic impact.
The unfortunate casualty was identified as Ms. Miracle Chibuzor of Miracle Ultima International Ltd, who was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash. The five injured individuals received immediate medical attention and were swiftly transported by traffic police to Famobis Hospital in Lotto, Mowe, for urgent care.
The remains of the deceased were conveyed to Idera Morgue where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to certify the cause of death. In the aftermath, traffic officers attended the scene to alleviate congestion and forestall any secondary accidents, while the wrecked vehicles were removed to the Sagamu Police Station for further inspection by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
The police statement lamented the reckless behavior exhibited by some drivers who, in their haste to maximize daily earnings, disregard the sanctity of human life. The Ogun State Police Command strongly urged motorists to exercise heightened caution, particularly around heavy-duty vehicles, to avert such avoidable calamities.
