The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has established a committee to address the growing influx of Almajiri in Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, made the announcement while briefing journalists after a closed-door security meeting chaired by Wike.
According to Disu, the committee’s primary focus is to monitor the Almajiri system, including welfare, education, and activities within the FCT. This move aims to ensure security agencies stay informed and effectively manage the
situation.
While Disu downplayed concerns about security threats linked to the Almajiri influx, he urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
The newly formed committee includes the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant agencies. They are expected to submit a report within two weeks.
Meanwhile, Disu revealed that the FCT Police Command has arrested five suspects for various crimes, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to maintaining security in the nation’s capital.
