Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has entered a new chapter in his music career with the release of his highly anticipated single, “Why Love”, under his new independent record label, Giran Republic.
The 3-minute track, produced by Magicsticks—known for hits like Young Jonn’s “Aquafina” and DJ Neptune, Mr Eazi, and Joeboy’s “Nobody”—blends Asake’s signature Fuji and Afrobeat fusion with deep storytelling. “Why Love” explores heartbreak, fame, and personal growth, delivering emotional lyrics over an infectious beat.
Speculation has been swirling about Asake’s exit from YBNL, but neither the artist nor Olamide’s label has confirmed any contract termination.
The official video for “Why Love” has already surpassed 60,000 views on YouTube, reflecting the strong fan reception.
Asake made his mark in September 2022 with his debut album, “Mr. Money”, which broke records for the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music and peaked at No. 66 on the Billboard 200—the highest-charting Nigerian debut album at the time.
His second album, “Work of Art” (2023), and third album, “Lungu Boy” (2024), both debuted at No. 66 on the Billboard 200. “Lungu Boy” also became the longest-running No. 1 album on Nigerian charts.
