Binance Bribery Allegation Not Against House of Reps, But Some Members – Spokesman
The House of Representatives has clarified that the bribery allegation made by Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan was directed at some members and not the entire legislative body.
Gambaryan had claimed that some lawmakers requested a $150 million bribe during the dispute between Binance and the Nigerian government. However, Nigerian authorities have dismissed the claim.
In a statement on Saturday, House of Reps spokesman Akin Rotimi Jr. emphasized that the allegations were against individual members, not the institution itself.
“These allegations, which have been previously circulated last year, are directed at individual members, not the institution itself,” the statement read.
The House noted that the lawmakers named in the allegation have denied any involvement in bribery.
One of the accused lawmakers has filed a lawsuit to clear his name.
Others are encouraged to take legal action to protect their reputations.
Rotimi also stated that the Binance issue has now evolved into a diplomatic matter involving the US and Nigerian governments.
He revealed that Nigeria has prioritized national interest over external commercial pressure, rejecting financial settlement offers from Binance.
“These facts raise serious questions about the credibility and intent of the allegations being peddled,” he added.
Since the matter is now in court and part of ongoing diplomatic discussions, the House of Reps said it will refrain from further comments in line with parliamentary, judicial, and diplomatic principles.
The statement urged Nigerians to rely on verified facts instead of misleading claims aimed at discrediting the country’s institutions.
“The House remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of Nigeria’s democratic institutions,” the statement concluded.
