The United Nations Office For the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) is to shut down its operations in Nigeria.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe disclosed this on Wednesday during a Validation Workshop on Anticipatory Action Framework for Nigeria held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser Abuja.
According to him, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mister Mohamed Fall had informed him about the decision.
Professor Nantawe who decried the impact of flood disasters and insecurity on livelihood in Nigeria, commended UNOCHA for their interventions in the country, especially in conflict ripped Northeastern states.
He described as unfortunate the decision by the UNOCHA to pull out of Nigeria in the face of daunting humanitarian challenges still experienced across the country.
However, Professor Goshwe reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to tackling the menace of Floods and other disasters in the country.
