The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says possession of an international passport is essential for all Nigerians, serving as a primary means of identification both domestically and internationally. Aminu Shamsuddin, the Comptroller of Immigration for the Kwara Command, conveyed this message during a forum Ilorin, the Keara state capital. He says it is the directives of the Controller-General of NIS, Caroline Adepoju.
The move aims to ensure widespread accessibility and compliance with international identification standards.
The Comptroller acknowledged the commendable efforts of the Controller-General in promoting the acquisition of international passports by Nigerians. One noteworthy initiative in this regard is the approval of a Passport Front Office in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara, strategically designed to facilitate easier access to passport services. This decision aligns with the broader goal of encouraging more individuals to apply for passports while simultaneously reducing the congestion experienced at the Ilorin office.
The establishment of the Passport Front Office in Offa represents a proactive step taken by the NIS to decentralize services and streamline the passport application process. By creating additional service points, the NIS aims to accommodate the increasing demand for passports and enhance efficiency in the delivery of services. This move is particularly crucial as the international passport serves not only as a travel document but also as a vital form of identification.
