APAPA LP FACTION CONDEMNS AJAERO’S BOT APPOINTMENT

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A segment of the Labour Party aligned with Lamidi Apapa has criticized Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for what they perceive as an unauthorized appointment of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT).
In a press conference held in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, voiced apprehensions that this action could disrupt the party’s organizational framework.
Arabambi contended that the Nigeria Labour Congress lacks the jurisdiction to execute such appointments, citing Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2022 to support their argument.
This reproach highlights the escalating internal divisions within the Labour Party, with rival factions contending for dominance and influence over crucial leadership positions.
The designation of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees carries substantial weight within the party, shaping its strategic trajectory and decision-making dynamics.
The factional discord underscores broader challenges confronting political entities in Nigeria, encompassing issues of transparency, accountability, and adherence to electoral statutes and norms.
The discord between the Apapa LP faction and Ajaero’s leadership introduces another stratum of intricacy to the already fragmented political milieu in the nation.
Analysis:
The censure directed at Joe Ajaero by the Apapa LP faction underscores the internal strains and power dynamics within the Nigeria Labour Congress and the wider Labour Party.
The faction’s insistence on upholding electoral statutes and protocols reflects a dedication to democratic principles and legal governance, while also signaling their opposition to what they perceive as arbitrary decision-making by party authorities.
The contention over the appointment of the Board of Trustees Chairman emphasizes the significance of institutional mechanisms for resolving internal disputes and ensuring openness and answerability within political entities.
Looking ahead, it is imperative for all stakeholders within the Labour Party to engage in constructive dialogue and pursue harmonious resolutions to internal contentions to foster cohesion and fortify the party’s capacity to advocate effectively for the welfare of workers and marginalized populations.
