President Bola Tinubu stated on Tuesday that his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, has refrained from interfering in his administration since leaving office in 2023. Tinubu recalled Buhari’s commitment to staying away from direct involvement, quoting him as saying, “I won’t intrude on whatever you are doing. I won’t interfere. I won’t breathe down on your throat,” during the handover.
Speaking at the unveiling of two books in Abuja, titled “Working with Buhari (2015 – 2023)” and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy – 2015 – 2023 (Vols 1-5),” Tinubu appreciated Buhari’s hands-off approach. The book “Working with Buhari” was authored by former Special Adviser Femi Adesina and reviewed by former CNN Journalist of the Year, Shola Oshunkeye. The second book was reviewed by Professor Eghosa Osaghae and Professor Kabiru Mayo, with editing by Dr Udu Yakubu.
Contrary to interference, Tinubu highlighted that Buhari has collaborated with him to foster the flourishing of democracy in Nigeria. The statement reflects a cooperative and supportive relationship between the two leaders in promoting democratic governance.
