In the ruling, Justice Musa Liman has approved bail for Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, imposing a ₦10 million bond alongside a surety of equivalent financial standing.
The designated surety must be an upstanding individual who possesses real estate holdings valued at the stipulated sum. Additionally, they are required to submit the original property documents and a passport photograph to the court’s
registrar as collateral.
While delivering his ruling, Justice Liman mandated that Sowore relinquish his international passport to the court registrar, ensuring restrictions on his travel. Moreover, the court granted him a 24-hour window to fulfill all bail
conditions. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would result in his detainment by the police until the conditions are met.
Sowore had appeared at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) on Monday, January 27, 2025, responding to a police invitation. During the interrogation, authorities initially granted him administrative bail, yet he refused
the terms and opted to remain in custody.
Following this, the police filed a 16-count cybercrime charge against him.
Among the accusations, count three asserts that on December 20, 2024, through his X handle, Sowore allegedly referred to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun as “the illegal IG of the Nigeria Police Force.”
Further claims suggest that Sowore shared an image of the IGP with the caption:
“Mediocrity, incompetence, corruption—a country governed by individuals devoid of character can never advance.”
“IGP Kayode Egbetokun will destroy the Nigeria Police if we do not act now.”
Despite the weighty allegations, Sowore has pleaded not guilty to all 16 charges levied against him.
