Crude Oil Pilferage: Tantita Foils Another Vessel Incursion in Delta

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A significant interception has been achieved in the ongoing battle against crude oil pilferage, with Tantita Security Services Limited thwarting the incursion of yet another vessel in Delta State. This collaborative effort with operatives of the Nigerian Navy underscores the concerted approach in combating illicit activities within the maritime domain.

Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSNL), under the stewardship of former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, stands as a bulwark against the scourge of pipeline vandalism. Engaged by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, TSSNL is entrusted with safeguarding critical energy infrastructure from acts of sabotage.

The vessel in question, identified as MT Harbour Spirit bearing the IMO No. 8226272, currently finds itself under scrutiny at the Tantita facility in Oporoza, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State. While official briefings regarding this development are awaited, the interception marks a pivotal stride in curbing the illicit trade of crude oil.

This recent accomplishment follows closely on the heels of a prior seizure by naval authorities, where the vessel MT VINNALARIS 1 LAGOS was apprehended for illicit activities in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State. According to official reports, the vessel was caught red-handed engaging in unauthorized siphoning of crude oil, underscoring the pervasive nature of the challenge.

The deleterious impact of oil theft on Nigeria’s economic landscape has long been a subject of concern for governmental authorities. Recognizing the imperative of decisive action, the Federal Government initiated a pipeline surveillance contract last August, entrusting Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited with the formidable task of safeguarding critical infrastructure.

While commendable progress has been made through joint operations with the Nigerian military, the menace of oil theft continues to persist, highlighting the need for sustained vigilance and collaborative efforts to address this systemic challenge.
