Angry Youths Demand INEC to Reverse Election Outcome

In a series of protests, large groups of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youths have stormed the streets of Benin City, the Edo State capital, voicing their dissatisfaction with the outcome of the September 21st governorship election. The protesters are demanding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) take immediate action to reverse the election results. They believe the process was flawed and needs to be reassessed.

During a rally outside the INEC office in Edo State, the spokesperson for the youth protesters, Olu Martins, expressed the group’s grievances. According to Martins, the election results announced by INEC did not reflect the will of the people. He emphasized that there were significant irregularities in the electoral process that should not be ignored. The youth demand a review to ensure fairness and transparency.

The protesting youths firmly believe that the true winner of the September 21st governorship election is the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Martins argued that the results announced by INEC, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as the winner, contradict the actual votes counted at polling units across the state. This discrepancy has fueled the protests, with calls for INEC to correct the situation.

As tensions rise, the youths are pressuring INEC to take swift action to rectify the situation. They insist that reviewing the election outcome will restore trust in the democratic process and maintain peace in Edo State. The longer the delay in addressing the concerns, the louder the demands for justice from the PDP supporters.

The ongoing protests in Benin City have drawn widespread attention, with political observers noting the potential implications for Edo State’s political future. Residents and political stakeholders are keenly awaiting INEC’s response to the growing unrest. Whatever decision is made, it could significantly shape the political landscape of Edo State in the months ahead.
