The Federal Government has officially designated Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays in observance of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
This announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Extending his congratulations to the Muslim community, the minister commended their successful completion of the Ramadan fast, acknowledging the spiritual dedication and discipline it entails.
He urged all Muslims to uphold the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace, stressing the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in fostering a cohesive and harmonious society.
Tunji-Ojo also encouraged Nigerians to seize this festive occasion as an opportunity to pray for the nation’s peace, stability, and prosperity. He expressed optimism that the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr would strengthen national unity and promote cooperation across religious and ethnic divides.
Furthermore, the minister urged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while also extending kindness to the less privileged—an essential reflection of the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid.
“On behalf of the Federal Government, I extend warm Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful. May the blessings of this season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to all,” the statement concluded.
