The University of Lagos (UNILAG) recently celebrated its 54th convocation, a significant event where postgraduate degrees were awarded, including PGD, Masters, and PhD degrees. This ceremony marked a moment of accomplishment and memories for the 17,456 graduates who filled the packed halls, eagerly awaiting the recognition of their hard work.
At the award ceremony, the focus was not only on the numerous graduates but also on recognizing academic excellence. A total of 377 students were honored with First-Class degrees, showcasing the dedication and brilliance of the graduating class.
The Vice Chancellor set the tone for the event with opening words that resonated with pride and achievement. Among the notable highlights was the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees upon three distinguished personalities, including Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, adding prestige to the occasion.
Aminat Olawunmi Ige, who earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics, stood out by winning the overall Best Ph.D. Thesis Award. Isa Akanji Adedoku, with a Ph.D. in Private and Property, secured the Best Ph.D. in the Humanities. The ceremony also celebrated 31 Master International students, contributing to the global diversity of UNILAG.
The Minister of Education, representing the Convocation Visitor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledged continued support for education. The university, under new leadership, expressed ambitions for a new charter to deepen its acclaimed pride of place in the academic landscape.
