The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, recently held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, in Abuja to address the serious allegations of misconduct made by female soldier Ruth Ogunleye. In a video that went viral on social media, Ogunleye accused her superiors, namely Col. IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo, of sexual advances, harassment, intimidation, and threats to her life.
Ogunleye acknowledged the potential consequences of her actions in the video and sought support from Nigerians. The incident garnered significant attention from the public, with many condemning the reported misconduct within the Nigerian military. Netizens demanded a thorough investigation and insisted that the matter should not be covered up.
Following the meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, a statement issued by the Minister’s media aide, Mr Ohaeri Joseph, revealed that the minister was adequately briefed on the efforts the army has undertaken to address and resolve the matter. The visit aimed to address public concerns and ensure transparency in handling the allegations against the identified military superiors.
