Bello El-Rufai, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed his disappointment over the rift between his father and the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani. However, he stated that he is not in a position to mediate between them.
Bello, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made this statement during a BBC Hausa interview. He emphasized that while he dislikes the tension between the two leaders, it is not his role to intervene.
“I am not happy seeing them at odds because of the place they hold in my life. But reconciliation is not my job. My focus is on delivering my mandate to the people of Kaduna North,” he said.
Speaking on Governor Sani’s probe of El-Rufai’s administration, Bello noted that investigations are not wrong if done with good intentions rather than personal vendetta.
“It is not bad to investigate, but it should be done with sincerity, not to humiliate anyone or settle personal scores. If it is done for selfish reasons, Allah will judge,” he stated.
Bello said he is unaware of the exact reason for the fallout between his father and Governor Sani. However, he dismissed speculations of deep animosity between them.
“None of them told me anything about their rift. I only noticed that things are not as they used to be. But people are exaggerating the situation,” he added.
Despite calls for him to mediate, Bello maintained that his priority remains serving his constituents rather than getting involved in political disputes.
“I love peace and loyalty. If I have an issue with anyone, I prefer to address it privately, not publicly,” he stated.
“Politically speaking, Mallam Nasir has no equal. He is focused on his work. He is my father, and I respect him. It surprises me that people expect me to comment on Governor Uba.”
