The incident came to light when a user on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the handle @harrisonbbi18 posted details of the alleged extortion. According to the user’s account, the police officers traveled across states – from Port Harcourt to Aba, Abia State, then to Rivers State, Bayelsa State, and Ughelli, Delta State – with the victim, ultimately demanding the payment of 3,000 USD before returning him to Port Harcourt and leaving him there.
When seeking further information, the Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, initially declined to confirm the number of officers arrested or provide details about the victim’s contact. However, she later confirmed the incident, assuring that the outcome of the investigation would be made public once concluded. The police personnel involved have been identified, arrested, and are currently under investigation.
This incident highlights the growing concern over police misconduct and the abuse of power, prompting authorities to take action to address the allegations of extortion.
