In a bold move to combat criminal activities, Enugu State Police Command’s operatives, acting on credible information from the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), conducted a raid on a criminal hideout in the Centenary City area of Obeagu-Awkunanaw community in Enugu South Local Government Area on Friday, January 19, 2024. The operation resulted in the apprehension of three male suspects: Emmanuel Nwabundo, 39, from Abia State; Emmanuel Eze, 35, and Anthony Onoche George, 30, both from Anambra State, while others managed to evade capture.
During the operation, a significant cache of weaponry was seized, including eight pump-action guns along with live and expended cartridges. Additional exhibits recovered comprised a machete, solar-powered CCTV cameras, assorted phones, a DVD player, and suspected stolen bags and clothes, as well as objects believed to be charms.
Preliminary investigations uncovered that the criminals had been utilizing the hideout for planning and executing various criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping within Enugu metropolis and its environs.
The apprehended suspects are set to face legal proceedings once investigations are concluded. Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, commended the operatives for their success, reiterating the commitment of the Command to proactive and forward-looking policing, aiming to eradicate unrepentant criminals and their illicit activities in Enugu State.
CP Kanayo calls upon the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urging them to provide credible security information to the Police.
