In Kidandan, Giwa LGA of Kaduna state, a tragic incident unfolded as at least nine children sustained serious injuries in an explosion that occurred on Saturday afternoon. Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson in Kaduna, confirmed the distressing development on Saturday night.
According to Hassan, the children discovered an object in a bush and brought it to a school where they were playing. Attempting to open the object, it exploded, causing injuries to the young ones. The police spokesperson explained, “When they got to the school, since they didn’t know what the object was, they decided to open it to see. So, in the process, it exploded and left about nine of them injured.”
The information about the incident reached the authorities through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area, an operational zone where security agencies conduct numerous operations in the bush. Currently, the injured children are receiving treatment at a medical facility.
In response to the incident, the police’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit has visited the scene to assess the situation and determine the nature of the explosion, whether it was a bomb or another type of explosive device.
