Victor Giwa, one of the lawyers representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Kogi State Government of sponsoring the move to recall the suspended lawmaker from the Senate.
Giwa made this claim on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, alleging that the state government, through Charity Omole, an aide to Governor Usman Ododo, has been leading efforts to remove Akpoti-Uduaghan from office.
On Monday, March 24, 2025, Charity Omole led some constituents from Kogi Central to submit a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the recall of Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The senator, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was earlier suspended for six months by the Senate after a seat arrangement dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio. She also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office.
Giwa argued that the recall process was politically motivated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Kogi State. He said the move was not based on performance or constituency issues but was rather a retaliation against Akpoti-Uduaghan for her accusations against Akpabio.
“There is no way the recall process can go through except it is done fraudulently,” Giwa stated, adding that the process involves 15 stages and is practically impossible to execute.
He further insisted that the recall process should be initiated by the constituents, but in this case, it was clearly influenced by the state government.
“Charity Omole is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women and Youths. This is a government-sponsored recall, not a people-driven process,” Giwa claimed.
As of press time, the Kogi State Government has not responded to the allegations.
