The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, in achieving the over N5 trillion revenue target for 2024. Segun Oduntan, the national vice president of ANLCA, emphasized the importance of addressing bottlenecks in the export process to boost Nigeria’s foreign earnings and strengthen the naira.
Oduntan urged the government to prioritize the establishment of an intermodal transportation system, including cargo rails, to facilitate the efficient movement of both export and import cargoes at ports. He called on the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, to collaborate with the Minister of Works to ensure the speedy completion of port access roads. Additionally, he advocated for the port system to operate on a 24-hour basis.
Regarding the N5 trillion revenue target set by Customs, Oduntan acknowledged it as a projection and expressed optimism about the renewed Customs leadership. He highlighted the positive atmosphere among officers and emphasized the importance of compliance over paying fines or levies. The cooperation between customs officials and agents reflects a shared commitment to achieving revenue goals and improving the efficiency of port operations.
