The imperative of implementing state police as a solution to the escalating insecurity in the country echoes loudly, emphasized by leaders of the Southern and Middle Belt Forum during a condolence visit to Jos. The forum, representing various regional groups, expressed solidarity and condolences to the government and people of Plateau State in the aftermath of the Christmas Eve attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas, where over two hundred lives were lost and properties destroyed.
Led by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, the delegation was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who appreciated their support and solidarity. Governor Mutfwang also joined the call for decentralizing the police force, emphasizing the need for state police to ensure effective security within the states.
As the nation grapples with persistent security challenges, the clamor for the establishment of state police becomes more pronounced, signaling a growing consensus that addressing the issue requires a reconsideration of relevant laws to facilitate the implementation of state-level security measures.
