The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) extends its gratitude to the Federal Government for deferring the implementation of the Expatriate Employment Levy (EEL). Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, NECA’s Director-General, issued a statement lauding the Ministers of Interior and Industry, Trade, and Investment for their involvement in halting the EEL.

In his proclamation, Oyerinde acknowledged the objectives of the initiative and acknowledged the significance of addressing loopholes in the oversight of expatriate employment in Nigeria. However, he stressed the necessity for the government to deepen its dialogue with stakeholders, including the organized private sector (OPS), to ensure a comprehensive grasp of the ramifications of the EEL.

NECA’s commendation follows the Ministry’s declaration on Saturday regarding the postponement of the EEL’s enforcement. This action reflects responsiveness to the inputs and concerns articulated by stakeholders, underscoring the government’s dedication to inclusive policy development and execution.

The deferment of the EEL presents an avenue for further deliberation and consultation between the government and stakeholders, encompassing NECA and the organized private sector. Such engagement is pivotal for fostering a cooperative approach to confronting challenges and crafting efficacious policies that foster sustainable economic advancement and growth.

NECA’s acknowledgment of the government’s decision underscores the importance of constructive interaction and collaboration between the public and private sectors in propelling socio-economic advancement and nurturing a conducive business atmosphere in Nigeria.

The decision to suspend the EEL epitomizes a responsive and consultative modus operandi to policy formulation, showcasing the government’s willingness to entertain the perspectives and apprehensions of stakeholders in policy conception and execution.

Looking ahead, NECA advocates for sustained dialogue and cooperation between the government and stakeholders to ensure that policies resonate with the requisites and priorities of the private sector and contribute to the holistic development of the Nigerian economy.

The postponement of the EEL enforcement presents an opportunity for stakeholders to collectively tackle pertinent issues and explore alternative strategies that foster the effective administration of expatriate employment while bolstering business expansion and investment in Nigeria.
