The Niger State government has received 17 kidnapped victims who were rescued in Kaduna State by the police in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The victims, abducted on March 3, 2025, from Kango and Huloto villages in Munya Local Government Area, were handed over to the government during a ceremony at the command headquarters in Minna.

Munya and Shiroro Local Government Areas have been hotspots for banditry activities in Niger State. However, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba noted that there has been a reduction in such incidents over the past two years, thanks to the government’s efforts to partner with security agencies.

The state government has pledged to provide medical and social support to help the victims overcome the traumatic experience.

Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman, who handed over the victims, described the rescue as a result of non-kinetic efforts, highlighting the collaborative approach between the police and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The rescue of the 17 kidnapped victims, including 15 from the same family, is a welcome development for the people of Niger State and their families. The state government’s commitment to providing support to the victims is a step in the right direction.
