The Nigerian Army reaffirms its unwavering commitment to eradicate banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges plaguing certain regions of Taraba State.

During the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) held at the 20 Model Battalion in Serti, the headquarters of Gashaka Local Government Area, the Nigerian Army emphasized its zero-tolerance stance towards any activities that pose a threat to national sovereignty.

WASA, a longstanding tradition within the Nigerian Army, serves as a platform for soldiers and their families to unwind alongside fellow security agencies. It marks the conclusion of the 2023 training year and heralds the commencement of activities for 2024, with the battle against insecurity being the focal point of their efforts.

Amidst grappling with multifaceted security challenges, the forum provides an opportunity for military personnel to engage socially while strengthening civil-military relations. Activities such as cultural displays, tug of war, and bonfires foster camaraderie and unity among participants.

Lt. Col. Abidemi Ogidan, the Commanding Officer of the 20 Model Battalion Gashaka, reiterated the Nigerian Army’s steadfastness in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that threaten the safety of residents.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa of the Six Brigade in Taraba State assured troops of improved welfare to enhance their productivity.

Traditional rulers of Gashaka, including Zubairu Hamman-Gabdo, underscored the importance of prayer as an additional tool for troops to maintain peace in troubled areas of the state.

Outstanding soldiers who have displayed courage, intelligence gathering skills, and contributed to restoring peace in their line of duty were honored and encouraged to sustain their efforts.
