The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Warri Refinery, calling them false.
In a statement on Friday, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that operations at the refinery were only curtailed for scheduled maintenance.
No Explosion, Just Routine Maintenance
Soneye explained that on January 25, 2025, the company deliberately scaled down operations at Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) Area 1 to perform necessary repairs.
“These maintenance works were planned to ensure the refinery produces high-quality Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) (diesel) and kerosene efficiently,” he stated.
Despite the maintenance, Warri Refinery continues to load eight trucks of diesel and kerosene daily, ensuring a steady supply.
Refinery Operations to Resume Soon
NNPCL assured the public that the maintenance is progressing as scheduled and full operations will resume in the coming days.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to uninterrupted fuel supply and thanked stakeholders for their patience.
