Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has allocated an additional N1 billion towards gratuity payments, upholding his commitment to the welfare of pensioners within the state.

The announcement was made by Mr. Adesoji Adewuyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of State Pensions, at his office located in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Monday.

Adewuyi clarified that the funds were disbursed to cover state pension obligations, which would be distributed in two installments. The first installment caters to pensioners listed in the October 2014 registry, alongside outstanding Basic, Rent, and Transport (BRT) allowances for March 2013. Additionally, pensioners with urgent medical requirements or hospital expenses will be prioritized for disbursement from the gratuity.

The permanent secretary further outlined that the second installment of gratuity disbursements will benefit pensioners listed in November 2014. Moreover, pending Basic, Rent, and Transport (BRT) allowances for pensioners from March and April 2013 will be addressed accordingly.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his unwavering dedication to the welfare of senior citizens, emphasizing the positive impact of this initiative on pensioners’ lives. He urged those awaiting payments to remain patient with the administration, assuring them that their turn would soon come.

Over the past six months, the state government has allocated approximately N1.7 billion for senior citizens’ welfare. This encompasses full payments from September to November 2014, outstanding BRT balances from January to May 2013, gratuities for retired judges, assistance for pensioners with health challenges, and gratuity payments for certain permanent secretaries.

Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to God for allowing them to enjoy the fruits of their labor. They commended Governor Abiodun for fulfilling his promises and prayed for continued guidance and protection for him as he leads the state.
