Analysis:
Displaced persons from over one hundred communities in parts of Plateau State are set to return to their ancestral homes before the start of the farming season. This marks a significant step towards helping these individuals rebuild their lives and communities.
The Plateau State Task Force, responsible for overseeing the resettlement program, has assured internally displaced persons (IDPs) of a swift resettlement process. The state government is expected to provide support in terms of security and reconstruction of destroyed homes.
The Task Force, established by the Plateau State Government, has initiated on-site assessments and held interactive sessions with victims of attacks across 121 communities in Mangu, Riyom, Bokkos, and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.
While some displaced persons have already begun returning to their homes, there is still anxiety among them. They urge the government to expedite the resettlement process.
The Task Force Chairperson led a team to Mangu to assess the situation and review preparations for resettlement, where over sixty-seven communities were affected.
Another team, led by the Vice Chairperson, visited Bokkos, where fifty-three communities were evaluated for resettlement needs.
The transition committee chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area expressed confidence that displaced persons will soon be resettled, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area.
The ongoing resettlement process aims to return displaced persons to their communities as swiftly as possible. The government is expected to put in place necessary measures to facilitate a smooth transition and provide support for the affected people.
