The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects linked to the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing on Friday. He stated that police operatives, in collaboration with the state vigilante, apprehended the suspects on Thursday.
Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1, was abducted on December 24, 2024, in Onitsha. His decomposing body was later found on the 2nd Niger Bridge by a joint security team.
The police recovered two pump-action guns from the suspects. One of the suspects was shot in the leg during a gun battle with officers.
The arrested suspects include:
Ugochukwu Onuorah (30 years)
Ikemefuna Ossai (20 years)
Ikenna Orugu (27 years)
Chibuike Obiefuna (19 years)
Chinonso Olisa (19 years)
Chinedu Okoli (21 years)
David Ojini (25 years)
Peter Sunday (20 years) – described as the most notorious, with a tattoo reading “No peace 4 d Government” on his chest.
Additionally, the police arrested Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnap suspect in Uruagu, Nnewi, while some of his gang members were neutralized after attacking Rapid Response Squad personnel.
CP Itam highlighted ongoing efforts to combat crime, stating that police operatives have neutralized over 100 criminals and dismantled several criminal hideouts in Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru, and other locations.
