The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shafiu Bawah, who allegedly took his own life by hanging himself.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Kontagora.
The motive behind the suicide remains unclear, and authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
The police have removed the body from the scene and later handed it over to the family for burial.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary efforts are being made to uncover the reasons behind the officer’s actions. The incident has also sparked concerns about mental health challenges within the police force.
