The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory preceding the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, 10th February 2024, between the hours of 5:00 am and 2:00 pm.
During the marathon, the following routes will be temporarily inaccessible to motorists:
Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium, Surulere
Ikorodu Road to Anthony
Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge
Third Mainland Bridge (Inbound and Outbound)
Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road
Falomo Roundabout to Bourdillon Road
Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way
Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu BelloWay
As a consequence, the following alternative routes will be available:
Apongbon Bridge towards Eko Bridge via Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas, or utilize Eko Bridge via Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to connect Oyingbo/Jebba to Herbert Macaulay Road.
Motorists can also opt to traverse Victoria Island to link Independence Bridge and CMS Bridge to access Apongbon, then Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo to reach Herbert Macaulay Road.
Regarding the Third Mainland Bridge:
The Third Mainland Bridge will be inaccessible to motorists from 12:00 midnight until the conclusion of the marathon.
Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, disclosed that outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue towards Lagos Island are exempt from the diversion. He assured the deployment of officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority at diversion points to ensure smooth traffic flow and motorists’ safety.
However, the Transportation Commissioner advised motorists with no urgent business along the marathon diversion routes to steer clear of the affected areas. He further stated that normal traffic flow on the Third Mainland Bridge will resume immediately after the conclusion of the marathon.
