President Bola Tinubu has mandated the immediate settlement of the arrears in electricity payments owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) by the State House.
This command follows the reconciliation of financial records between the State House Management and the AEDC, as disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Contrary to the initial assertion in a paid advertisement by AEDC claiming that the State House owed 923 million NAIRA, a letter from the AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary clarified that the outstanding amount stands at 342 million NAIRA, as of February 14, 2024.
With both parties satisfied with the reconciliation of accounts, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, affirmed that the debt would be liquidated with the AEDC before the week’s end.
Moreover, the Chief of Staff urged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to promptly reconcile their financial records with the AEDC and settle their electricity dues accordingly.
This directive underscores President Tinubu’s dedication to ensuring timely and transparent fulfillment of financial commitments, particularly in vital areas such as electricity provision.
The resolution of the outstanding electricity debt illustrates the government’s steadfastness in meeting its financial obligations and nurturing positive rapport with service providers.
By promptly addressing the outstanding debt, the government aims to uphold a dependable electricity supply at the State House while fulfilling its commitments to the AEDC.
Furthermore, the directive serves as a reminder to all government entities to prioritize the settlement of their financial liabilities to service providers to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential services.
