President Bola Tinubu has authorized the prompt enhancement of critical health infrastructure and apparatus spanning all six geopolitical zones, aligning with his administration’s objective to overhaul the health and social welfare sector for improved service provision nationwide.

As part of President Tinubu’s Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, the enhancement of health infrastructure and apparatus stands as a paramount goal. To advance this transformative initiative, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), will undertake a comprehensive revamp of cancer treatment infrastructure and other vital developments in six tertiary hospitals across diverse geopolitical zones. Furthermore, previous investments will undergo complete refurbishment and expansion to augment widespread access to high-quality healthcare nationwide.

Numerous teaching hospitals across geopolitical zones have been designated for the establishment of oncology and nuclear medicine centers within each facility, as President Tinubu endeavors to ensure accessible world-class cancer diagnosis and care throughout the nation. These include the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, University of Nigeria (Nsukka) Teaching Hospital, Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, and Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

Moreover, ten pivotal healthcare service expansion initiatives encompassing radiology, clinical pathology, medical and radiation oncology, and cardiac catheterization are slated for implementation in ten hospitals across all geopolitical zones. These initiatives aim to enhance screening and diagnostics for communicable and non-communicable diseases, mitigate mortality rates, and enhance outcomes for non-communicable diseases.

The projects are scheduled for completion within 12-18 months, fostering job opportunities for clinical, administrative, and managerial personnel across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. They will also enhance the capacity of clinical personnel in advanced procedures, diagnostics, and treatment modalities, in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
