Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern vow of retaliation in response to an assault on a concert hall that claimed the lives of over 100 individuals, labeling it a “savage terrorist act.” During a televised address, Putin denounced the perpetrators and promised severe consequences for their actions. He disclosed that all four assailants had been apprehended before they could evade capture by fleeing to Ukraine.
“I am compelled to address you today regarding the heinous and barbaric terrorist incident, which resulted in the loss of numerous innocent lives,” Putin expressed in his initial public statement following the incident.
“The four individuals responsible for perpetrating this act of terror, resulting in fatalities, have been apprehended. It has been ascertained that they were en route to Ukraine, where they intended to cross the border,” asserted the Kremlin leader.
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) divulged that the attackers had been in communication with contacts in Ukraine as they endeavored to abscond the country. The assault, which transpired at the Crocus City Hall situated in a suburb on the northern periphery of Moscow, resulted in the tragic demise of at least 115 individuals at the hands of armed assailants, with the concert hall engulfed in flames. While the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Russian authorities have refrained from confirming this assertion.
“Those who engage in acts of terrorism, perpetrate murder, and demonstrate a lack of humanity will face the inexorable consequences of retribution and obscurity,” proclaimed Putin, designating Sunday as a national day of mourning throughout Russia.
