New Chairmen Sworn in by Governor Siminalayi Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, officially swore in the 23 newly elected local government chairmen. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday, following the results announcement by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). These elections marked a crucial step for the governance of local communities within Rivers State.

The local government elections were held on October 5th, with 22 out of the 23 chairmen elected on the platform of the Action Peoples Party (APP). The Action Alliance (AA) managed to secure victory in the Etche Local Government Area, breaking the dominance of the APP in that region. The results highlighted the political dynamics within Rivers State and emphasized the strength of the APP.

Governor Fubara extended his congratulations to the newly sworn-in chairmen, recognizing their electoral victories. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Bala Mohammed, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Bauchi State. Governor Fubara urged the new chairmen to focus on delivering on their campaign promises and improving the welfare of their respective communities.

The swift swearing-in ceremony, which occurred just days after the election results, signifies Governor Fubara’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition in local government leadership. Each of the newly elected officials was accompanied by a guest, following state government protocols. The chairmen are expected to assume office immediately, beginning work on improving governance and addressing community needs.

Before the swearing-in ceremony, the elected chairmen received their certificates of return from the RSIEC. This formalized their positions as local government officials. The new chairmen now carry the responsibility of governing their areas, with a focus on enhancing public services, infrastructure, and community welfare across Rivers State.

As the chairmen begin their tenure, they face the critical challenge of fulfilling their campaign promises. The APP’s dominance in the elections, with 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions, puts additional pressure on the party to deliver tangible results. The people of Rivers State are eager to see how the newly elected leaders will address pressing issues and bring positive changes to their communities.
